Steel Wire Armoured SWA Cable is constructed with a black PVC sheath, PVC insulation, copper conductors, and steel wire armouring. This cable type is designed for mains electricity in various applications, including underground laying, power networks, incoming mains to homes, and numerous other external and internal uses.
Steel Wire Armoured SWA Cable is suitable for direct burial, with the steel wire armouring providing additional protection from external damage. The PVC insulation offers resistance to various fluids and chemicals, features good heat stability, and is UV resistant.

  • Conductors: Plain circular, compacted or shaped stranded copper or aluminium conductor (Conductor shaped: RE=circular solid, CC=compacted circular stranded, SM=sector shaped stranded)
  • Insulation: PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
  • Color Identification:
    • 3 Cores: Red, Yellow, Blue
    • 4 Cores: Red, Yellow, Blue, Black
    • 5 Cores: Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, Green
    • Above 5 Cores: Black Cores with White numerals
    *Color identification can be changed as per user requirements
  • Assembly/Inner Sheath: Two, Three or Four insulated conductors are laid-up together with non-hygroscopic fillers and the assembly is bedded with an extruded layer of PVC. In case of non-armoured cables, this layer may be omitted
  • Armour: Galvanized Steel Wires, single core cables shall be Aluminium wire armour, Aluminum/Steel Tapes applied helically over the bedding of multi-core cables as per IEC 60502
  • Sheath: Extruded PVC Type ST2 as per IEC 60502-1 or Type 9 as BS 6346/5467
Special types of PVC sheathing materials such as Fire Retardant PVC, Anti-Termite PVC, Anti-Rodent PVC, Sunlight resistant PVC, and Oil Resistant PVC are available on special request. Also, special sheathing materials including LLDPE, MDPE, HDPE, LSZH, and CPE are available on request.
Fire Performance
Cables can be supplied with special flame retardant PVC outer sheath to comply with the flame test requirements of IEC 60332-3-22, IEC 60332-3-23 and IEC 60332-3-24. We can also supply cables with Low Smoke Halogen Free (LSHF) material according to IEC 60502-1, BS 7211, BS 6724 or other equivalent standards.
